Hi Everyone,

You may notice some glitches as the new message boards are being implemented. You can ask questions and read updates on these issues on the Help Board. You can also email HHCM@mail.ivillage.com if you have any problems.

Stay safe in the storm!

To nwtreehugger.  Glad you could post.  Kinda hideous when a CL can't write on the board she leads.

And there's still plenty of room for improvement.  I composed this response to another, but it's displaying (at least in its edited form) as a reply to myself.  The composition frame is puny and cannot be enlarged.  Reminds me of Xinha--which is a plug-in, for crying out loud..

As for viewing the site with a smartphone or tablet running on Apple's OS, the last time I tried, in a thread it was impossible to see anything other than the OP.

Pretty pathetic, IMHO. This whole change was badly conceived and very poorly implemented--here we are, nearly a month later without resolution of basic problems with the mobile platform.

Am wondering how many members got tired of waiting for "fixes" and just drifted away.  More than a few, is my guess.

Hi Jabberwocka,

We realize there's still room for improvement, and would have liked for everything to be working as it should by now, but there were some unexpected glitches that couldn't have been found in testing, and Hurricane Sandy definitely impacted the progress on our boards, as the offices were without power until the other day.

They are working on the issue with mobile devices. Androids are now working as are some Apple devices.

We appreciate your patience very much.

To CMEvelyn I've been posting at iVillage for almost ten years. That doesn't include the years posting at Parent Soup. In all those years, I cannot recall any other time when the sites were in such abysmal technical disarray, though there was definitely a deterioration two years ago when iVillage higher-ups took a reasonably sound format and threw it away. No more outline view. No more usable search function. No way to use a single post in a link. There were a significant number of regular posters who left then. Many did not ever come back but set up their own group on Face Book. I participated briefly but it wasn't a good fit. This latest change has been a debacle and cannot be explained away by Super Storm Sandy since it was a shambles weeks before Sandy even developed. As for patience, well..... my question is this: Why should we be patient when there has been so little consideration given to the functionality of the board for its hapless users? Somewhere I read that this change was eight months in the making. No details were given about why the change was implemented other than some rather lame-sounding statements about controlling content. WE didn't choose the format which outsourced content, somebody in iVillage did. They CHOSE the earlier setup, they CHOSE this latest overhaul and then were unprepared for real world use. IOW, we are asked to be forbearing with incompetence, failure to properly prepare, and capricious changes. That's a very cavalier attitude about the impact on those who (try to!) access the iVillage sites. Makes no sense whatsoever. There were probably be some who hang on out of habit and I may be one of them. But others have left and might not come back. That's no way at all to run a site, or encourage participation. Nor is there any acceptable rationale.

Jabberwocka, I do understand your frustration and I've passed your comments along. The new boards were launched 2 weeks before Hurricane Sandy, and yes, there were issues then, but having lost an entire week and a half put everyone behind as there were logistics to figure out even when the office got power back. Some of the tech team suffered flood damage and one lost their home. The timing was bad, but everyone’s doing all they can. I can assure you no one has a cavalier attitude about this. I don’t really have any other info to share at this time, but you can read Jessica's latest update here:

FYI, I've noticed a problem when responding to posts....the system randomly picks someone from the thread (including myself) to respond to - even though that's NOT who I am aiming for!!  ;-)  I'll email you too but thought I would post it here so that the others know that it has been reported.  Thanks!

The tech team is aware of this and are looking into it. In the meantime, you can use the quote feature when replying to someone, or put @ and the person's name at the beginning of your post.

I'm sorry for the inconvenience.
