Gee Mitt...might want to get the facts before responding. ;p~~~
This was a tragic situation, made worse by your comments!

Three thoughts.
With the internet, global events are immediate. Whether it's media outlets or political figures, frequently the response is also immediate. Rather than gather facts and vet them thoroughly, too often people are afraid of being late, slow, whatever. It's not just Romney. But.....
Romney is, in foreign policy terms, a reactionary. His cadre of advisers include names linked to the debacle of the "pre-emptive" invasion of Iraq. Small wonder that those advisers are likely to "shoot, ready, aim". Romney himself lacks diplomatic skills when speaking extemporaneously (which, with GWB in mind, ought to give us all a shiver up the spine).
Last but not least, a political candidate running for POTUS is looking for any chink in the armor of the incumbent. If the perception is that Obama isn't a hawk, you can bet money that the those who are of the mind (infinitesimal though that mind may be!) that "might makes right" will flock (pun intended) to the standard of a self-portrayed hawk. You'd think we'd have learned a lesson from Dumbya but human folly is nearly inexhaustible.
Obama responded with diplomacy, which is what we need in a world leader. Not someone who responds with kneejerk reaction before having all the facts.
