The Victim Commits Suicide!
It's not enough that Yale University pledges encouraged rape last October by chanting, "no means yes, yes means anal", now the University of Notre Dame prefers to hide rape or sexual assault charges. The Notre Dame football game MUST go on!

Elizabeth "Lizzy" Seeberg committed suicide 9 days after the rape, yet the accused football player was allowed to play, while she overdosed on prescription medication. Notre Dame didn't even mention to the St. Joseph County Police Department, that was investigating the case, that she had reported a sexual assault.

What does that say about our society? What morals are we teaching our college sons & daughters about sexual assault?

Here is the complete story:

This story is so sad. My sister works in a campus police department. She used to run a womans domestic violence and sexual assault center. At least I take some comfort in knowing, when these young women comes through on my sisters shift, it's taken to the police, and taken seriously. She gets paid crap wages, and works crap hours, but see's so much happen at this transitional time in young peoples lives, and they have no guidance, if noone is there to give it to them. Their friends are usually, just as clueless as they are, when something bad happens.

As for the whole athlete still playing thing.......Research shows most bullies aren't from "broken," homes, or people with low self esteem. They are often popular and self confident, the stars and athletes of the schools. I find that if a student provides a benefit to a school, they are allowed to get away with more. Since

Any college/university that willingly/knowingly decides to hide something like this in order to 'protect' a player...well, it shows that the school has zero regard for it's female students.

That's great that you sister helps these young girls. Many are clueless of how the REAL world is. She must hear horrible stories from students and she must be pretty strong to listena and deal with it!

She does what she has done, because we were abused kids, back in the 50's and 60's, when everyone just minded their own business. My dad had her thrown in juvenile hall, for trying to escape his abuse. Nobody helped us.

It's good that she turned a bad thing done to you both and used it to do good in this world. Many people, unfortunately, go out and start commiting crime to vent out their anger. Good for both of you! Since YOU also help others by messaging here in iVillage!
