Our mortgage will be paid off in 5 years so the mortgage holder, Chase, keeps sending us priority mail packages offering us refinancing. Then they follow-up with phone calls. We ignore the mail & the calls.

About your refinancing try a refi. for a lesser period of time. Years ago we changed from a 30 yr. to a 15 yr. & saved both with a lesser interest rate & paying off earlier. Just a thought.....

I'm much happier dealing with a credit union! We have BECU & they have been great over the years.

When many of the big banks stated that they would be charging monthly ATM useage charges, the credit unions got a lot a new business! I think I heard on the news that BECU got over 6,000 new members in one month. But then, credit unions are 'for members' & 'not for profit' so they approach everything a little differently than banks do.

I used ot have a checking & credit card with Chase (nee Washington Mutual). When they changed everything over to Chase after the buy-out, Chase kept calling & offering to refinance our mortgage. I don't know how many times I told them that we are VERY lucky & don't have a mortgage any longer! Then they tried to get me to go for a 'personal line of credit'. I closed both the checking & the credit card. ;)

No, that's not correct. Obama said that banks shouldn't be using bailout money to go to Las Vegas nor should people be blowing money that they don't have to waste in Las Vegas, or buy a boat, that people need to prioritize their spending when they don't have much to spend. That's the truth. That doesn't translate into "Obama said not to go to Las Vegas," no matter how many times people try to spin it that way.

Making the banks refinance loans isn't "bailing" anyone out. The people still owe on their mortgages the same exact amount as before the refinance, just with lower interest rates.

That's how we landed with Chase my mortgage was with WM. We use a small local bank for all our other business & we've been happy with their service... No charges with direct deposit. :)
