The case could be argued that the NRA's resistance to restrictions on firearms is directly responsible for so many U.S. weapons winding up in Mexico. I am pointing out that there are problems which "Fast and Furious" was probably trying to sidestep in order to gain a greater good.

Yeah. Calderon has been more than a little bitter about the way he's been forced to try to address a problem when he doesn't control significant variables on the north side of his border.

There is a big difference to me. Those "lost" guns will bw used to kill for decades to come. They will be used to kill people on both sides of the border.

What is so frustrating to me is that Obama blamed these AZ gun stores for carelessly selling these weapons to drug smugglers. Now, we have proof that these very gun stores were alerting the ATF about the potential buyers and they were told to let the drug smugglers buy the guns. Thousands of guns were sold, the ATF was warned. The agents in the field warned the "higher ups" that this was a horrible plan and would not work. They were instructed to stand down.

This operation was so poorly thought out and executed. It was totally botched now hundreds of people are dead because of it. Holder is acting like he knew nothing of it. really???? He's a joke!

The Obama administration is totally trying to cover their behinds here. They allowed this to happen. Even worse is the fact that it is now obvious that MOST of the guns used by the drug cartels are U.S. Military guns that were sold to the Mexican government by the U.S. Government. The Obama administration knows this, yet they continue to sell arms to an inept, irresponsible government like Mexico. All the while, they are blaming the small gun store owners in AZ as the culprits here.

What an outrage! But like I heard someone else say....when there is money to be made.....sigh.

(( The whole concept of letting the little fish, do their thing, in order to catch the big fish, is a common tactic in law enforcement. It only seems to be a problem when the general public finds out.

"a poorly thought out and poorly executed plan"

I'm NOT defending the plan but noting the failure to read my earlier post.

>"The controversial program known as "Fast and Furious," got its genesis in 2006 in Texas as part of "Operation Gunrunner," but went nationwide soon after, arriving in Phoenix in 2009"<

There's also this bit:
"While this operation began during the Bush Administration, the defensive nature of the Obama Administration in releasing information about it insures that Republicans will aggressively keep after this story in coming months."

As they should! People are dying because of this administrations screw up. This operation may have started on Bush's watch, but it was executed and botched by the Obama administration. Something like this should not be swept under the rug!

I never said you were defending the plan. I did read your earlier post. I don't appreciate being accused of such.

The US/Mexican aren't the only countries involved. It appears there has been some success.
