Oregon mall shooter, victims identified
Wed, 12-12-2012 - 2:09pm

From USA Today: The masked gunman who shot up a crowded suburban Portland, Ore., mall, killing two people and himself, was identified by authorities Wednesday as Portland resident Jacob Tyler Roberts, 22.

Clackamas County Sheriff Craig Roberts said the shooter didn't appear to be targeting anyone in particular when he entered the Clackamas Town Center on Tuesday and fired as many as 60 shots.

He said the death toll would have been higher had the shooter's rifle not jammed and law enforcement responded within minutes of the first shot. Still, the sheriff called the shooting a "heartbreaking tragedy by any standard."

I, too, wonder how someone gets to this point.  It really is heartbreaking and I can't even imagine how terrified everyone must have been.  So sad.

Scary stuff. Something similar happened just a couple of weeks ago at the mall by us. Thankfully, nobody was hurt. The kid's gun jammed and the only bullet shot got lodged in the ceiling (near the carousel, no less). This is why I avoid the malls. People are crazy.

What an awful act of violence and a tragedy for the victims and their families. Thank goodness the gun jammed before he could harm even more.

It's amazing to me that 60 shots were fired and only 2 other people besides the shooter were killed. Thank goodness his gun jammed...it could have been so much worse. How terrifying!

I was just watching the news conference, the whole situation is so sad.  Very tragic for the families of the victims, and just so senseless.  I don't understand what is going through somebody's mind to commit this type of violence.
