What is it with these Walgreen pharmacist? About 3 or 4 yrs ago a friend of my oldest dd took a presc for plan B into the Walgreen just down from my house. A male pharmacist refused to fill it or give the presc back to her (my dd was with her) DD called me, I went down & confront him. Wasn't getting anywhere with this jerk (and yes he was acting like a jerk) I demanded to speak to the store manager & told him he had 2 options, 1) fill the presc 2) I belong the 3eacher union WEA & I would contact the union about dropping Walgreen as one of drug providers. I had called the union. They filled the presc for the friend.
My dh & I no longer use them for our presctions, we only use a local pharamcy. Just for these reasons.
I don't use Walgreen's either because it would take half a day to get prescriptions filled, and many times, I'd go back to get the prescriptions and that's when they'd tell me they were out and it was on order. I switched to the Sav-On in my local grocery store. They only have two pharmacists so you get to know them and they get to know you, and it takes 20 minutes maximum to get a prescription filled. It's done by the time I'm done shopping. Lots more convenient.
While I can sort of understand (though I completely disagree with) the conscience laws, this doesn't even fall under that. A medication was prescribed to stop bleeding. What, the pharmacist gets to make life and death decisions for patients now?
Why do you think he has the right to refuse? He has no right to make medical decides for me or anyone else. I have Grave's Disease, I MUST take thyroid horman everyday. He at one point refused to give me my meds, I just about went over the counter after him. There is no other uses for my medication, you can't get stone, I'm not able to get pregrant. The closest other Walgreen is 5 miles away (and I would had to take 6 city buses to get there & back) So tell me again why any pharmacist has any medical knowlage of what I MUST take to stay alive, or anyone else.
"Why do you think he has the right to refuse? He has no right to make medical decides for me or anyone else."
He isn't making a medical decision. He is refusing to sell you a product.
If a pharmacist will not dispense medications as prescribed, the pharmacist needs to be in a different line of work. It's not like the pharmacy itself didn't have the medication...the pharmacist just picks and chooses who will or will not get it. That's unethical and completely wrong.

Why does the pharamsist need to know what the prescription is for befor he will fill the presecription, Is that part of his job description?
