Racist Tweets After Boy Sings National Anthem

I was blown away with the Cheerios ad backlash, so not sure why I'm so surprised that it happened again.  This time the racial Tweets were aimed at a boy who sang the national anthem:

The racists couldn't keep him down. The crowd at Thursday night's NBA Finals game between the San Antonio Spurs and Miami Heat gave 11-year-old Sebastien De La Cruz a roaring standing ovation as he returned to sing the national anthem again.

De La Cruz sang the anthem Tuesday night as well. After that performance, he was called numerous racial slurs by Twitter users. Many of the tweets assumed that De La Cruz was Mexican, perhaps due to his traditional mariachi costume, and went on to insult that country.

The article went on to say that many of the haters deleted their Twitter accounts.  I find it pretty cowardice that they are choosing to hide now.  Obviously they feel that they can't defend their point of view.

What do you think?

I too was shocked by the Cheerios issue and again by this.  What century are we living in again?  It honestly makes me a little sick.  What are we teaching our children?  And to TARGET a child? Ugh.  Sickening.

I believe we are seeing the results of internet anonymity. People don't have to be accountable  for what they say so they will say anything. The more of a stir it causes, the more people will jump in and fan the flames.

The same cowards who would tweet racist comments would probably never even think of saying such things to someone's face or out loud where other people can hear it.

I know this is old news, but it is sickening to say things about a child like that.  I know there are prejudice people out there, but keep it to the adults if you insist on being ignorant at least.
