Did anyone watch it? Good, bad-what did you think of Obama's speech?

I was only able to watch the beginning & I have a link to the speech so that I can read it. I was impressed by what I heard.

It seemed typical of prior speeches. Everything is great in America, except for the opposing party we'd have nirvana. President insert_name_here will lead us to prosperity and overcome the road blocks presented by insert_party_not_running_whitehouse_here. For the most part these aren't worth watching.

The only aspect of the speech I found somewhat entertaining, was President Obama's heavy reference at one point to the need for the opposing party to work as a team with Democrats. He used the military as his reference. Many accolades were given from Obama to the military, and I guess Republicans are insubordinate enlisted defying General Obama. Be that as it may, Obama who now loves the military as Commander in Chief announced he's firing hundreds of thousands of them. On reading an article about military layoffs I laughed and thought of Obama's love as a bit like that of the spider woman. That is tough love.

"Insubordinate enlisted defying General Obama", my fanny.

The super committee didn't do its job. The Budget Control Act of 2011 mandated defense spending cuts; also cuts in social welfare programs.

I suggest you call your House and Senate representatives and express your displeasure to THEM; rather than blaming Obama and confusing my poor little brain by whipping back and forth in analogies (so, which is he, a general or a spider woman?!).

The Senate hasn't passed a budget in 3 years. Obama wants deep military cuts. Why should I call the House to complain?? The House passes budgets since Republicans took over, and the House hasn't proposed the horrific military cuts Obama has. Shouldn't I blame those who are responsible??

When the Congress let the Budget bill fail and our credit rating dropped, cuts had to be made.

Did you bother to look into the BCA?

Here, I'll make it easier for you: http://articles.latimes.com/2011/oct/25/nation/la-na-defense-supercommittee-20111026

"Tea Party" members of the House, which you appear to hold in such high regard, wanted even deeper cuts than those which were finally agreed upon and totally rejected the idea of tax hikes. http://content.usatoday.com/communities/onpolitics/post/2011/08/House-debt-limit-vote-John-Boehner--179529/1 Shouldn't you blame those who are responsible?

To add further insult to injury, S&P looked at the brinksmanship antics of Congress and downgraded our debt. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011 Shouldn't you blame those who are responsible?

I suggest doing research before you decide who is responsible, since so far, you have been waaaaaaaaay off the mark.

Our credit rating dropped because neither party can control spending or has a serious plan to reform entitlements. Obama is unable to put forward any budget that lowers the deficit, as was Pelosi. When Republicans do put forward a budget that lowers the deficit they get ridiculed. The Obama budget was awful, and Republicans shouldn't have signed on.

The Tea Party wants across the board cuts. They don't get up and praise the military while slashing the heck out of them. Obama does that sort of thing. We can't sustain the spending we have promised. There probably isn't sufficient wealth in the world to cover our obligations.
