Conservative Media Bias

Am I the only one on this board that is not convinced of the alleged liberal media bias? I could just as easily believe that there is generally a conservative media bias in the main stream networks. Different studies have found different biases - is there any reason to believe one study as right?

It seems to me that there is an overwhelming belief by most people on the internet and in the real world that that the bias is a fact. I can certainly see why conservatives would want people to believe that there is a bias. Imagine that there is not bias, but the conservatives convince the media that they are biased so that began slanting the views to the right of what they believe is unbiased just to avoid being labelled left-leaning. Wouldn't that be sweet for the conservatives? But I just can not convince myself that a bias actually exists.

Yikes! That sounds like an enemy of the Constitution!

Pardon?

But really, you think a [Cronkite] is not committed to a point of view in advance?

Yes. That's one of the characteristics that made him a trustworthy news source.

I guess I could see how a person with a conservative bias might have a difficult time acknowledging that some people approach their experiences without a predetermined mindset.

This link is a good example of having a predetermined mindset.

The MRC set out with an intention to show that the media has a liberal bias. With that agenda in mind, they are able to mix fact with fiction in a way that frames Cronkite as a liberal.

A few critical reading skills allows one to follow the intended agenda without concluding that "Cronkite is a liberal" is fact.

Yes, let me unveil this secret, Cronkite was a liberal! Tada! And LBJ, another liberal, lost his support for the war. Can you see how LBJ just might think that this was a problem? Think hard.

He no longer could count on his support now could he? But wait, Cronkite was a news man, how could LBJ count on support if he just reported the news, without bias??? Hmmm... one wonders what the answer could be.

I need your help. Could you use your hard thinking to explain this quote to me?:

"If I've lost Cronkite, I've lost Middle America."

In particular, I am interested in learning when "Middle America" became code for liberal.

Thanks in advance.

LBJ said that cause Cronkite traveled to Viet Nam and brought us the War, live in our living rooms every night.

I am not aware of "middle America" being code for liberal. Seems like he really needed Cronkites help to get middle America behind him, eh? Can you figure it out yet?
