Enough with the rainbows!

I cannot possibly be the only person who is NOT happy with the Supreme Court's decision to strike down DOMA? My Facebook wall has been covered with all kinds of rainbow pics this week, UGH.

Marriage has been definited as being between one man and one woman for CENTURIES (if not longer). It is a way to legally unite them in a manner that guarantees continuation of the human race! IMO, this is a highly arrogant move by the court to make such a sweeping change.

And I'm afraid you're mistaken.  That some men took multiple wives is evidence that some men took multiple wives.  It is not evidence that monogamy didn't exist or that it wasn't the social norm.

You're equally mistaken in your zeal to equate "scientific" with "factual"...but it speaks volumes.

" ... and disagree with the notion that monogamy is a recent occurence and that marriage has ever been anything other than between a man and a woman".

It is not a notion, but simple history.  Even in the fairy tale book adored by Christians it was obvious that men, such as the wonderful Abraham, often took multiple wives.

But then, some people disagree with the fact that the earth is round, that dinosaurs exsited, and the world is older than 6000 years old , etc.  In essence, anything scientific or factual.

The USSC didn't exactly strike down DOMA, they simply said, in states where homosexuals are legally married, the Fed must extend the same benefits to gays that they do to heterosexual couples.  In states where gay marriage is not recognized, nothing has changed.

As for society, I agree with Southernbaptistgal...and disagree with the notion that monogamy is a recent occurence and that marriage has ever been anything other than between a man and a woman.  The left's anything-does-everyone-gets-a-trophy mentality is at the heart of the degredation of society.

Totally agree with demontespan (sorry if I misspelled your screen name)- of all the arguments against same-sex marriage,  the whole "continuation of the human race" thing makes the least sense to me. Not only are there already too many humans on the Earth already, same-sex couples can still have families via egg donation/surrogacy or adoption.

Actually, for centuries, marriage had been a business deal conducted between families to preserve and protect their wealth and produce heirs, and very often it was not between one man and one woman as monogamy is a recent fad.

There is absolutely no danger of the human race going extinct.  In fact, there are more people living in the world today and all the sum of all the people that ever lived.

Don't like same-sex marriage?  Just don't do it.  Simple.
