That box pops up with annoying regularity, and I do not do instant messaging.

Very Annoying..........

Have you tried this?

To turn on the Do not allow Windows Messenger to be runoption, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, click Run, type gpedit.msc, and then click OK.
  2. In Group Policy, expand Local Computer Policy, expand Computer Configuration, expand Administrative Templates, expand Windows Components, and then expand Windows Messenger.
  3. Double-click Do not allow Windows Messenger to be run, and then click Enabled.
  4. Click OK.
  5. On the File menu, click Exit to quit the Group Policy snap-in.
  6. I know this sounds like you are turning it on....but this is what it said to keep it from running.
  7. I was going to check it out but I have Vista and I don't have gpedit.msc so I couldn't do it.
  8. It is an xp thing. just follow and go slow and you can do it yourself........let me know if this works......

I would take a look at your installed programs and look for Windows Live Essentials, and uninstall that. It is no longer listed on its own anymore, it gets bundled in the Live Essentials package.

Ok, I think this is another Microsoft naming problem .

Were you talking about the Windows messenger that you can chat with other people or the windows messenger service?

I think it was in XP they had a Windows Messenger thing that was always popping up that used to,,,,,,,,I am not sure if it reported to Microsoft or what it did but people didn't like it and that is what you were able to shut off...

If you were talking about the Messenger that lets you chat with others that is a program that I am not sure you could even delete at one time.....but you could get it not to bother you I remember that I never used it but am sure it was still there somewhere.....I always used Yahoo when I chatted......

Again it was another time when they couldn't think all they had to do is call one a Messenger and one a messenger service......that would have helped....
