I could see dating a coworker as a way to create more difficult relationships at work, but there are people that still do date coworkers! :) Have you ever dated someone you met through work? Obviously a large chunk of most people's lives is spent working, and it is usually a social effort where teamwork is encouraged.

In any case, have a happy Valentine's Day!

I dated a coworker, once. After a few months I broke it off and it was very awkward after that because I saw him regularly; and a lot of other coworkers knew that we'd been a couple so there was talk. From that I learned the lesson to not get involved with a coworker. When I had the opportunity to change jobs I was happy to get away from that situation. At the new job there was a guy I had been involved with a couple of years before. Our break up was more friendly so it wasn't too awkward to see him at work, but it helped that we worked in different departments and I didn't have to see him much.

I could understand the happiness at leaving that awkward working situation. That's one of the reasons I wouldn't easily get romantically involved with a coworker. I do think it is different between a part time job situation and a career job, too. I wouldn't be as apt to discount a developing relationship at a part time job, especially if I wasn't planning on keeping the part time job as long term from the start.

I think after some time has passed and you've not maintained the relationship while working together, that working with an ex could be easier.

In any case, I'm glad you're not in a current crazy situation with romance at work! :) I hope you had a good weekend!
