Drug Test

Hello, I am looking for information.  I have an anxiety problem and my doctor prescribed me Xanax June of 2013.  I have taken a few from that inital bottle but still have a few pills left from last June.  My partner lost her job in December and this has caused a great deal of stress in the household.  She can't sleep and is getting increasingly more depressed from the unemployment.  Last night she asked if she could have one of my .5 mg of Xanax to help calm her down.  I said ok.  Then wouldn't you know it she got a call with a job offer an hour after she took the Xanax and they want her to take a drug test a day an a half after she took that pill.  This is the one and only time she has taken a Xanax.  I am freaking out because I am reading tons of stuff on the internet about how she may fail that drug test.  Is this a viable worry?  Or am I worrying for no reason?  I feel horrible now I never should have let her take that pill but I cant reverse time.  Please any advise would be helpful.  Will the drug test pick up on that one .5 mg of xanax?

It's a common mistake, but unfortunately, it could be one that costs her the job.  If she was able to provide a prescription from her doctor, then the result would come back clear, assuming she was not abusing the drug.  But as I have years experience in HR, I've seen people receive a positive and been denied the job offer.  How long does she have to take the test?  It may leave her system in time.  My advice, based on experience, is she should take the drug test anyway, because failure to do so may result in inability to be hired for 12 months with that company.  Best of luck to you.

I was on Xanax for a few years. I doubt it will show up in her system a day and a half after she took one pill. You have to take them usually twice a day. It has a half life of 12 hours so half of it is gone in 12 hrs. I'm not a doctor or pharmacist but, I think it would be all gone by 36 hrs.

You do know that you can not share your prescription drugs with other people-right? It is against the law and you can both be punished for it. If your partner needs Xanax then she needs to get to a doctor and get her own prescription.
