Jobs expert Laurence Shatkin, Ph.D., author ofBest Jobs For The 21st Century, analyzed occupations by the percentage of women who reported "very high" satisfaction levels (from the National Survey of College Graduates), median annual earnings as of 2011, projected growth through 2020 and average annual openings. These 10 jobs emerged as the best:

This doesn't come as a surprise at all.  A high "entry threshold"  (i.e. years of education and training) makes it less likely to have an oversupply of qualified job seekers.  And a demanding work environment in a male dominated field further weeds out those who cannot take the heat. 

In some instances a male dominated field gives more job security to women.  In my group of 16, there are only 3 women and the employer is quite keen on keeping us if only for appearance (equal opportunity, etc.) sake.  The interesting thing is all 3 of us are child-free because is not the kind of job that is conducive to raise a family.
