Chase/ Bank Cash Rewards programs

Hi Everyone,

I have Chase for everything and wanted to get the most from their cash reward programs. I do not owe any money on CC. The only way to have rewards is to charge. I have been charging and paying what I charge each time. This will keep me good on how my $$ I really have on my account. BUT this is very time consuming and at the end, I am not really sure how to calculate what and when I will receive rewards.

1% cash on everything

5% on certain purchaes each QTR.

10% bonuses because I have a checking account.

Does anyone have the secrest to this??

I don't know the specifics of your Chase program, but I do remember reading a while back about a mom who wanted to take her child to Disney World and got a CC to earn travel benefits. In the end, it wasn't worth it, even with her paying it off, I believe. The article talked about how she could have more frugally travelled and spent less overall than she did trying to rack up travel rewards.

It's kind of like Warren Buffet's argument for only ever renting a home rather than buying one--in the end, he says, you'll put less money into your abode and actually end up with more cash than you would "investing" in owning a home.  I'll admit, though, that I bought my house :)  I like having a sense of ownership and being able to do what I want with my yard, including having my dogs run around it :)

I agree with your sentiments about all of these programs being way too time consuming. I often need to remind myself of what my time is actually worth, regardless of what "rewards" I might be "earning."
