Working as a Temp, Need Advice

I am just finishing up month 4 of a 6 month temp contract with a company and I'm 4 months pregnant. Anyone have any similar experience? I'm wondering if and when to tell the company I'm assigned to. I am hoping to be hired on full time at the end of the 6 month contract, but don't want to jeopardize my chances with a pregnancy announcement. At the same time, I don't want to blinside my potential employer either. Any suggestions?

I have not had the exact same experience but while I was unemployed for 2 years - many of the positions that employers were posting were through temp services. this way they can see your work without spending money on benefits. I also think that many employers are actually not hiring employees for the same reason. They post positions but never fill them or use temps to cover the busy season. I hope you can get some great help here at the board. -Melissa

When taking a temp assignment, one needs to be aware that RARELY does that translate into a full time job offer.  Companies who hire temps do so for a reason--no benefits, no real time wasted on training, no unemployment, and no turnover stats.  That said, honesty is ALWAYS the best policy.  If they were considering a job offer, and you do NOT tell them you are pregnant, when they find out, it will not be a happy ending.  Tell your employer that you are 4 months pregnant, and that the condition will not interfer with your job performance.  Let them take the lead from there.

As a temp, are you getting any paid time off or maternity leave benefits? Why are you a temp and not a permanent hire already? Is the position not thought to be needed longterm or is the company just trying you out before committing to hiring you?
