A friend of mine here at work referred me to a counselor who is specialized in DV and with parental problems.

Just open up with her and tell her exactly how you feel. Remember, she has probably heard it all. Don't be nervous; she's there to help you.

Hugs,

Wishful I am so glad that you are going to see a counselor. Just be yourself and I am sure there will be some kind of introduction between you and the counselor...then with mine I just did tell her my story. Do whatever you feel comfortable doing and saying...nothing is right or wrong with a counselor. At least a good one. You should be able to be yourself and just say what is on your mind...no matter what it is.

I am so happy for you...that you are taking this step. It will help you immensely.

Huge hugs to you.

I sometimes think, some days my mother is good and often times not.

My mom will be the first one to tell you that being a child shouldn't hurt -- she suffered at the hands of her stepfather, and when I first left my ex and told her what had happened, it brought back all sorts of bad memories for her.
