What to do with a husband who thinks he is 'boss'. I am wanting to get another dog. I had to put my older one down last Christmas. I have one now who is lonely, but a very good dog. I have found an adult, not the same breed, and a real sweetie. He is threatening to leave if I get the dog. He did the same thing with the one I have now. Then he pouts, doesn't talk. He doesn't realize that the world doesn't revolve around him. He has outbursts out of nowhere. This gets real old. I try to ignore...we have been married for 30 years...help!

Hi leathaj, and welcome -

To me, this sounds like a baseless threat in order for you to comply with his wishes.

I read the list..and there are several things that fit and have happened. Yelling for no reason, hit my old dog on the back with a shovel, and she had arthritis, for walking in the sand for the patio, wants to know who calls on the phone, wants everything in the house like he wants it, I'm not suppose to have anything sitting out...and on and on.

I need to figure out how to handle his behavior, I more or less ignore. If I think of it, I give it back to hime. Last time he threatened to leave, a couple weeks ago, I said that it was pathetic and childish. He didn't talk til our anniversery. I think that he thinks he got his way. But I got news for him. He is fishing this week, I took the week off and didnt' say anything. I will probably get the dog..I have told him I will always have a dog...guess it went in one ear and out the other.

I CAN'T BELIEVE WHAT I JUST READ--ANY MAN TO HIT ANY DOG OLD OR YOUNG WITH A SHOVEL IS AN ABUSER!!! PLEASE DON'T GET ANOTHER DOG I'M SCARED HE MIGHT DO SOMETHING TO THE POOR DEFENSELESS ANIMAL. PLEASE WAIT AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS IN YOUR SITUATION.

THANKS,

You need to deal with the situation as you see fit (meaning get the dog and hope he doesn't do anything to him or her).
