Finding a DV Counselor

It's just me again. I'm wondering if anyone here can give me pointers on finding a good specially-trained DV counselor. (It's not like I can just casually ask around for recommendations by friends and family) Where would I begin to call?

Also, as finances are limited, does anyone have any suggestions on how to get counseling for a limited cost? (I'm in NY, as I'm sure it varies by state).

Thank you!

Good questions!

First of all, you can call the National hotline, or you can try www.womenslaw.org and check for resources in your state.

Call the national domestic violence network. (It's in the book.) They can recommend someone in your area. Most states have local gov't or non profit agencies that specialize in dv counseling and offer reduced fees.

I did the same thing here in OH and the most I ever paid was $5 and it was the best decision I ever made. It got me through all my issues with my ex husbands abuse and I am now married a second time and this one is nice to me! Good luck.

Thank you! I will be sure to look into that option as well. I'm glad that things worked out well for you- I hope I have the same fortune.
