An update for anybody who has read my posts -
My mom and I flew out to California on the 12th, called for a police escort, and went to my apartment and got my clothes, important papers, and my car. Boy was he surprised! He just sat there like a deer in the headlights while one of the police officers talked to him about everything. I was able to get my financial papers, my Navy discharge papers (now I can apply for educational benefits and finish my claim with the V.A.), and enough information to call around and take my name off of everything (electric, dish network, etc.). I signed a "release form" to take myself off of the lease to the apartment while I was there too. I was also able to rescue a kitten that he had "adopted". He knows I love cats, so one of the things he tried to get me to come back was getting me a kitten. It "mysteriously" died after a few days (I have a few ideas how that may have happened), so he got another one. I took it when I got my things, and we are both doing great (she's fine except for a little ringworm, but now that she's on medication and it should clear up in a few weeks)! Also - the Navy FINALLY did something useful. I received several phone calls from his command - his direct supervisor and the Command Master Chief (very high on the totem pole) - they both spoke with him and ordered him to not contact me. I also was able to get a Military Protective Order ordering him not to call, email, text message, or otherwise contact me. It's only for 5 days, but that's better than nothing. On Tuesday I'm going to have my phone number changed, and talk to a lawyer to file divorce papers. Luckily, I live in a "no-fault" state and don't have to prove he was abusive to get a divorce. There is no way to tell how crazy he'll get now that he knows I'm serious about it being over, but I finally feel like things really will be OK. It will still take several months to get all of the paperwork and legal stuff done, but hopefully this 4th of July I can have my own "independence day" celebration :-)
