At least my daughter got away

After planning for several weeks, my daughter, 17, went back to the city where we lived before Aug. 2005. My husband has been so verbally abusive to her over the years, but moving to a different city for a new job pushed her over the edge. Her friends from the city where we had lived, always knew things were bad between her and her father. They were always offering her moral support. When things didn't go well here, they offered her an opportunity to come back. She found a nice family to stay with, and I sighed a letter saying I have tranfered custody to the parents, so she can go to her old high school. I had the letter noterized to make it a legal doucument. If he tries to bring her back home, she will fight his custody on the grounds he was abusive. Her school couselor here will testify to that. I just pray that she will find a good job, do well in her senior year, and get the college scholarships she needs, so he can't control her through his financing of her college education.

My chances of getting away are not very good. I suffer from bi-polar disorder and panic episodes, which make dealing with everday life very difficult. I'm taking medication, and it helps, but the depression makes it hard to maintain friendships with anyone. The biggest nightmare in my life is not my husband, but my mental health problems. I haven't worked at a job since my daughter was born. I'm trying to study on my own to become a computer programmer (I took a lot of classes about it, but I still don't understand it all). I still have a long ways to go. I have a 12 year-old son to take care of, so I don't want to start a new job until I know he's gotten all the attention from me that he needs.

I have to say that I really admire you for helping your daughter escape the abusive environment. I'll be pulling for her, and for you and your son.
