Is there anyway that ptsd ever goes away..?

I think I still suffer from it. and its been four years since me and ex are divorced.. He was somewhat abusive if you guys dont remember my story.

Once in awhile when I am around a person I feel is toxic I feel sick and my body hurts and I start obsessing.. Its a horrible feeling. Does this ever end??

I forgot to add ..

Is there a way to stop those feelings once they start? I mean I know I cant live in a bubble and I will sometimes experience toxic people and some toxic situations right??

thank You

I always think of it as having a release valve in place for when the PTSD is triggered. I have something I can focus on that makes me calm down and focus. It's kinda weird, but on the wall by my bed since I left my ex-husband, I have several bright yellow picture frames. They don't have anything in them and the way they are hung is just slightly off center, which always drives me nuts. When I wake up from a bad nightmare or start freaking out at home, I immediately go look at the picture frames. I focus on how they are slightly off-center and try to think of the different ways to reposition them to make them symetrical. I use my slight OCD to get me off of whatever the trigger is and focus on something mundane with all my energy.

thanks chipper I am going to try what you posted here. It all makes sense.. I think cleaning might help me.. that is sort of mundane.

I remember two years ago when I was out on a date and this guy went to kiss me. I immediately got into that dont touch me pose and backed off.. but that is just one example..

cute baby by the way.

congratulations and hope all is well...

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) Therapy is used for PTSD...If you are sure what you are experiencing is PTSD then find a Therapist who is trained and licensed in EMDR. When I first heard of EMDR I was not sure, but I have seen the end results and know that as strange as the treatment may sound it works great in resolving the brain's struggles with the traumatic event.
