Question about abandonment?

I have been trying to find a way to leave for sometime now. Yesterday I had just about had enough and I thought about getting up this morning and packing some of my things and leaving and not be here when he got home (hes not going to be home till late tonight due to work) I figured him being gone all day would give me enough time, but when i mentioned doing this to my stepmother (I have been talking to her about the things going on and her and my dad have offered to come stay with them) she said if i needed help to let her know but she was worried that if i did this he could get me for abandonment. I had never really heard of this before. Has anyone else heard of this? I looked it up this morning, but still dont quite understand. If I just leave like that, what would be his options?? What exactly is it and what could he get out of me leaving? Thanks for any help!

I'm not sure what your state's legalities are, but go and look at www.womenslaw.org to see what they are exactlly.

The abandonment issue applies if you leave your kids with him.

Thank you! I checked out the website and it had alot of helpful information on it! I also found a place closeby that offers shelters, counselling, and lawyers for woman in any type of abusive situation. I live in a small town and did not think there was anything like that around here. I can not tell you girls how much of a help you have been!! I love this board!!
