I finally received a formal judgement today from the court. They have granted me sole custody both physical and legal. They also FINALLY judged on the support payments. It comes to 510 Euro per month since December of last year. That puts him in arrears of 6630, not to mention the amount he owes me in legal costs ordered by the court (add another 4300). Property has still not yet been finalized and that adds to the figure too. Make no mistake, I am not counting the money, or rather counting on the money. I have no idea how it will be extracted from him, being that he is in another country. And frankly, I am so much afraid of him that I worry of revenge just for demanding what is court ordered. But anyway, there it is. Now what?

On to other topics, I am thinking of getting a small dog. Any advice as to whether I should or not? I have been around dogs for much of my life, but have never been the main owner of one. I work and travel, but my mother and son would be there for it all the time. Walks are not a problem. Only problem I forsee is when I want to go on vacation and bringing the dog along might not be possible. How do people manage? And costs for a vet. Is it expensive? Sorry to wander off the topic.

I am new to the board, but I wanted to comment on a puppy - since that is something I *DO* know about ;)

Depending on how often you travel, what kind of dog, and what your needs are... a puppy or dog is not all that difficult to care for. I had a job that required me to travel 80% of the time and I often joked that my long haired dachshund had more frequent flier miles than me!! Seriously, I traveled with him and occasionally he accompanied me to work. When I couldn't take him I found a WONDERFUL in home sitter than came by 3 times a day and also took in my mail, watered my plants and generally made my home look lived in. I would never have traded my wonderful dog for anything.

Good Luck :)

I am thinking of taking a look at some cavalier king charles spaniel puppies (that is a mouth full) at a breeder near me. I had heard they are wonderfully calm dogs, but they tend to have heart problems. But nothing else seemed to match my needs for a pleasant pup that's good with children and cats. The particular puppies I am looking at have pedigrees, which is not really important to me, but I want to make sure they are breed from parents without heart problems. I must share the name of the sire, which is (no lie) 'My Exotic World Empire State Building'. Ok, I admit it is original and I would NEVER have thought of it. But it must be very difficult to call it for dinner, or to scold it. Such as 'what is this My Exotic World Empire State Building?! Did you piddle on the floor again? Naughty My Exotic World Empire State Building!' If you look at some of the European breeder sites and see some of the names of the dogs, I think you will be amused. I get the impression they open an English dictionary, choose 3 or so words randomly, and stick them together for a name.
