When conversations spin

Recently I had a phone conversation that went in circles. When I tried to point that out, the other party tried to blame me alone for the circles. It took two. I was trying to end it and she wouldn't accept that the subject was closed. I felt dizzy, the way I used to with the abusers, as if I had no choice but to answer. It took some doing, but I got the conversation ended without hanging up on her. It wasn't about submission. It wasn't about her being right. It was about the fact that in a battle of BS I was unarmed. That's a good thing! Why stick around and duck cow chips? Today I talked with someone who listened and felt good about it.

Life just gave me a fresh dose of reality and I felt like sharing. Someone said that just because the ghosts of our past relationships dance in our heads, it doesn't mean we have to play a jig for them. I think that's kinda cool.
