Does she have one of those alert lockets? Also it would be very good (both for her safety and her spirits) if someone could come by and see her everyday. It could be trusted friends or family (they need to have a key to let themselves in).

I have a 92 year old grand mother who just moved her self into an assisted living home about a year ago. I know what you are going through.

I'm glad she didn't break anything. My grandma has been scaring us for years. She insists on living alone, doesn't drive, walks everywhere with her HUGE purse on her arm (she's 4 ft. 8 in.), and her neighborhood is not what it was 15 years ago. She doesn't tell us things because (I think) she's afraid of being forced to move out. Once, she sat for DAYS in the freezing cold thinking that her heat went out. She never called anyone, and my uncle noticed when he stopped by to visit. She just didn't have her heater on. In the middle of January.

Thankfully, the city wants to buy her property and they are willing to just take it if she won't sell it. This means we get to help her move somewhere closer to family (she's about 20 minutes from the closest relative). There's a retirement community she seems to be very interested in, so my fingers are crossed that it all works out. It's easier because this way she doesn't think that she has to move because people think she can't take care of herself, but because she has to due to the city's offer.

How far away from your grandmother is your mom?

Sorry to hear about your grandma. I hope everything works out and she moves closer to family.

My Mom is 45 minutes away and she is the closest to her. For awhile we had someone staying with her and then they were checking up on her. They released her saying she could stay on her own. If she keeps falling, someone will have to check on her. She won't move in with my Mom.
