shy about praying aloud

My husband and I have tried several times to pray together in the evening before bed. Since the very first days of our marriage, we've wanted to make this a part of our life together. We both believe in the power of prayer, and we know that it would be a blessing to our marriage. HOWEVER, we just can't get passed the the shyness. I have no problem praying in front of a committee or my family before meals, etc, but when I sit down with Cory, I clam up. He does as well. I wonder if it is because we met each other as writers and we got to know each other as writers. We hold each others writing in high esteem, and so even though we are talking to God not each other, we still feel pressure to be eloquent and smart in our words!

I've suggested that we pray silently but in each others presence, perhaps upon the same topics. Thoughts?

When I feel shy about praying aloud, I write my prayer out on paper.

Erica,

"We hold each others writing in high esteem, and so even though we are talking to God not each other, we still feel pressure to be eloquent and smart in our words!"

I'm sure that has

"I know my plans for you"declares the Lord. "Plans to prosper you,  and not to harm you. Plans to give you hope and a future" Jeremiah 29:11

Thank you, both, for your ideas. I definitely want to work on this! Cory and I are so close in so many ways, but your right, Karen, there is a profound intimacy about praying. I will continue to pray about this, and I'll let you know what happens.
