I don't think you sound jealous at all!
My MIL and FIL are divorced, and I know that the family acts differently depending on what side they are with. My MIL likes drama, so when we are gathered with just her there's a lot drama and tension. My FIL is very relaxed, so when we are with him things are more laid back and fun.
maybe i did sound jealous. I don't know. It is so hard to explain the situation and background w/ mil w/o writing a novel! lol
