This is a long story. I will condense it as much as possible.

It has been my experience w/ my extended family and extended il family that you are right, sometimes men do marry quickly.

I agree! I'd give the niece a chance, too.

I'm glad, she sounds like she needs family in her life and you may fit that need for her & her kids. You sounds like you are a very caring person to reach out to her.

It's amazing how many religious people are warped in their thinking. My aunt & uncle were like that. Looking down on those not born again but my uncle was very quick to rip someone off and because it was him, a born again Christian then it was ok. My Mom was 37 when my Dad died & my aunt wrote her a long letter telling her could never marry again complete with the bible verses my aunt felt supported her theory. Unfortunately, to get to see my Grandmother I would have to spend 5 hrs in a car with this family. During the entire trip, their 2 kids would bully & ridicule me. Their parents told my Mom that I was too sensitive & needed to toughen up. I'm in my 50s now & don't talk with one of my cousins, the other apologized as an adult & we are good friends now. She left her family at 18 so widen her views on life considerably. It's also interesting that my aunt changed after her husband died. She never remarried but she is kind & loving, accepting of her DD's husband & family who aren't religious and in fact attended her granddaughter's wedding to her female life partner glowing like any proud grandmother.
