Gift exchange lost the Christmas spirit

My future SILs have made such an issue of Christmas gifts I don't even feel like getting them one nor do I want them getting me one. My fiancé and I made the choice to opt out of their gift exchange because the limit was set too high. Last year we felt the limit was too high but said nothing, this year his sister increased the limit even higher so we said it was too high for us... And since we are all adults we didn't need to have astronomical gifts.....well apparently we were the only ones who felt that way because the others "want something nice". So we have opted out and will do our own thing for gift giving...
Well then his sister called this morning to tell us "just so we know we are only getting one gift for the two of us from the other two siblings together and she hasn't decided what her and her husband are going to do for us if anything.... He just said that's fine we haven't really thought about it but we aren't really concerned.
I just don't even want to buy this selfish group of ADULTS a gift and I certainly don't want them getting me a gift. I would rather see them give the money to charity but then they say I am being self righteous... They have taken away the Christmas spirit! Urgh!

I would suggest just that "give the money (that would have been spent on a gift) to a charity (that you all agree on)".

Say SIL1/SIL2, DH and I really don't need anything "nice" this Christmas, we just want to spend some time with you and your families.
