Awww...Ann !!!! I had a feeling that is what it was....that is why I asked you , if the dr had mentioned or examined your thyroid ! Your symptoms sounded soo much like mine did. Plus, I felt like a chicken bone wedged sideways in my throat...could'nt hardly swallow my own spit !!!

Don't fret about your voice...it WILL be raspy, after the surgery...but WILL come back to normal., believe me....mine was not sounding good after the surgery...& I am fine now !!

I had a Total thyroid-ectomy.

I don't know why no one found it before this. I certainly had my throat felt enough. Maybe if it had been discovered earlier, I wouldn't have lost the use of one vocal cord.

Well, he didn't hold out a lot of hope my voice would ever be normal. It's only a chance that the surgery will unparalyze the vocal cord. I could be raspy and weak forever, but I'm just hoping my other vocal cord won't be damaged or I'll lose my voice completely.

ANN...I can certainly understand your being fearful! Try not to be overly fearful though! Maybe an anti-anxiety med now would help.

It is too bad that Bunny had to go through this surgery, but what a great source of support and information she is from first hand experience!!

Hi Ann,
Let's think positively. Step one is now finished and you have the reason. Perhaps not the best reason but one that seems treatable and lots of people , like Bunny , go thru life without the thyroid gland. Please try not to worry obsessively (easier said then done), doctors are required to tell you the worse case scenario, especially in the states where malpractice runs rampant. Just a protection against that for themselves. So let's not worry sooo much. I'm glad Bunny is here to tell her experience and positive results. As in any surgery you'd need to be relaxed so pleasssseeee try not to think all day long about this and pleasssse don't make scenarios that will most probably not happen. I think the campsite will be just the place for you, as most of those people would want to be there for you and it will keep your mind off it a bit. If you all are planning to be jumping over the bonfires again, please bring a fire extinguisher with you or at least asbestos undies. LOL Ann, I won't try to downplay what you just learned , nor the anxiety you feel, but please know that when it gets too much just start a thread and we'll talk about it. We are all also just an em away. OK? (())
