Endocrinologist update

Because of my high level of thyroid hormone, he's almost sure there is still cancer.  So I have to go get an injection (of thyroid?) two days in a row, then have a scan and do the radioactive iodine pill again. Oh joy. I'm just waiting now for someone from the doc's office to call and set all that up.  And if I do all that, and there is no sign of cancer, apparently he'll want to do a PET scan to be sure. It sounds like he's really sure I've still got thyroid tissue left and that it's cancerous.

I'm a little scared, but mostly I'm annoyed. Annoyed that I have to go into Milwaukee two days in a row for the shots, annoyed I have to have that RA again.  Annoyed that my stupid thyroid was so big they didn't get it all.  I thought I was done with all this! I feel good! Why doesn't this ever seem to end?

Okay, tantrum over.

Thanks, Teri. So far things have gone pretty well. The radioactive iodine I had to take yesterday wasn't as large a dose as the one last year, so I felt better and could be around people, lol. Tomorrow is the scan and then I can go back to eating more normally. I'll still try to keep eating more fruits and salads than I used to, but it'll be nice to be able to have some butter, egg yolks, and yogurt now and then!

Ann here also is a list of potassium rich foods... just eliminate those you can't eat... thinking I'll eat some more potassium too.... see if it helps my leg cramps... thanks for giving me the idea.

That's a good list, thanks! I see I already usually eat a drink a lot of these things, so that must be why the leg cramps I got when cutting most of them out were new to me, lol.

Thanks. It's nice to know you all have my back. And a lot of patience with my whining, lol.

Yes, that's what the nurse said. So I'm eating more potatoes (even though they're plain, baked with nothing on them, sigh) and I got in a supply of raisins, because she recommended them, too. She also said sweet potatoes are a great source of potassium, but... yuck, lol!  I remembered all that from the boys & their sports...always getting a lecture about leg cramps & hamstring pulls! I'd rather eat the sweet potato !

Hope all goes well on Friday! We'll all be right there with you.

I'm home from the scan. I guess it went well. I didn't hear anyone screaming "Oh my God, what's that!" anyway, lol.  Just a lot of boring lying around.  My endocrinologist will review everything from this week and let me know what's next, if anything.

It was very nice to come home and have a lunch of my choosing (some noodles, tea, and a pickle)!

Thanks everyone for sticking with me. You helped keep my anxiety level down to a mild worry.
