Hi All.....starting tonite, I have to drink 1 bottle of the icky barium drink..then 2 more tomorrow...then the iv iodine..for this foolish CT scan....My question is....has anybody put a few drops of a flavoring ie almond extract...to take the cure off ?????

The nurses have me paranoid...telling me that is is really kinda nasty......to be sure to keep it ice cold , before drinking..& use a straw & put the straw to the side of ur mouth...to by-pass the taste buds on your tongue.....ewwwwww !!!!!  I asked them what if I can't keep it down.....they said to call & they would have other arrangements !!!! YEAH....ram a feeding tube down my gullet & pour the crap in that way !!!! sighhh !

I wish it was 24 hours from now & it would be over !!! Wish DD had the day off...but Noooooo.....I will stop right there !!!! McDonald's is on the menue for them for fine dining tomorrow night !!!  like it or lump it ...or STARVE !!!! lol

I'm sorry Bunny I'm JUST NOW seeing this thread on the screen,,,, normally I see a new thread on the home board page and know something is new but when I get to this board it's no where to be found. Today it was there. I have no clue,,, I did have to drink that stuff when I was about 21 and had an ulcer but so longgggg ago I just don't remember it..... I'm sure by now you've gotten it down and hope all comes out OK.... let us know OK? good idea about the McD's for dinner, as long as you don't have to go get it.... just call in a pizza, you are most likely not going to eat anyway. There ARE times when you need to just sit back and do nothing (stop the catering to the maddening crowds ) and this sounds like the perfect time to do that..... ;O)

I've never had to drink barium, but I've heard it is nasty. I guess the texture of it bothers most people (very thick, I guess).  I have had to drink stuff for a PET scan and a colonoscopy and that was unpleasant (mostly the after effects, lol), but not thick at least. I don't know if you can put flavor in it. Maybe ask the nurse about that.

Good luck with your tests. I sympathize and don't envy you.

oh YUCK....double YUCK !!  I have not had any procedures like that or drink the stuff. Did the nurse give you an answer? Hope all the tests come out good. Sounds like it could be all the nerves & stress have given you an ulcer.
