Hi, my name is Megan. My mom actually suggested I join, she said it would be right for a newly minted grad student woman. :)

I'm currently a grad student in Sociology, attending NYU. I'm single, but I have many close friends, so it makes all the difference. I absolutely love NYC, great social life, and it's such a pleasant departure from the year long hotness of Florida (although I must admit, I'm starting to miss it; just this morning, I walked barefoot on my apartment's hardwood floor, and it was freezing!!!) I'll be heading back to Florida for Thanksgiving, so I can't wait to kick my heels off and go barefootin' again, my feet need to feel the grass again. :)

Looking forward to fun times on the boards! :)

Hi Megan! New York must be quite a change from Florida! Were you badly affected by Hurricane/Super Storm Sandy?

I'm Ann. I'm in Wisconsin, married forever to my husband Tom and we have one daughter, Colleen, who is married and lives about 70 miles from me. I'm also the very proud grandmother to Riley, the baby my dd and her dh adopted at birth in June 2011. You can see her/them in my signature.

Okay, that's enough about me. I don't want to overwhem you, or scare you, lol. But you can probably see why my name here is Wordyone!

Aww, your grandaughter is such a cutie! Smile

I wasn't really affected that hard by Sandy; I live in lower Manhattan (specifically Greenwich Village), so we didn't get the hard brunt of it. We were only limited to staying in our building, though, and we lost power for about 12 hours. It was cold, and not all that pleasant, but I definitely know that those in Staten Island and NJ suffered SO much more. Keep them in your prayers.

It's great to meet you, and yes, NYC is a huge change from Florida. I actually was born in Boston, lol, but my family and I moved to Boca Raton when I was 5, so I basically grew up in Florida. I graduated from FSU two years ago, and the first winter that I was in NYC was nuts. Bundled up like crazy lol. I quickly learned that unlike Florida, you can't wear flip flops year round in NYC. It's an awesome place to be in the summer, though. Can't wait until I head down to Florida for Thanksgiving, although I'm already feeling hot lol. The AC unit in our building broke down, and I've been roasting in my apartment like a turkey. Hopefully it fires up soon, I'm sweating from head to toe! Surprised

Hi Megan! Welcome to the Sandbox ! I'm Pat.I live in NH.I have 2 sons- Oldest is  in northeast PA.He is a chef at a bed&breakfast - gorgeous place and great chefs!! My other son is in the Air Force stationed in Guam.He is just ending  his 3rd year in and is doing great!  We lived in PA for 18 years & would go to NYC often- loved it! Just as much- I LOVE going to Boston.

Glad you weren't affected too much by Sandy. Sure is a big mess down there! Sad to think it will be awhile in some areas as it is still too dangerous to put electricity on.Not good with the cold and Holidays coming

.Good thing about here in the IVillage...it never rains or snows and it is always warm & you can wear your flipflops Wink

Megan I guess I am rude but I forgot to introduce myself.  My name is Duane and I live in Clarksville, Tennessee.   I have been married for the last 16 years and together we have a 7 year old son.  Right now I work as a Field engineer for a large chemical manufacturer but starting next Monday will be going to work as a project engineer for a large construction company.

Right now I am also in Grad school receiving my masters in project management.  I am hoping this helps me realize my dreams of becoming a project manager and possibly more.

I have been on these message boards now for quite some time.  I took a break for a few years but now I am back.  These ladies on this board are fantastic and noone could ask for a better group of ladies and that is what keeps bringing me back.

Welcome to the board Megan.  I'm sorry for my late response to you but in my own defense, I am having  board problems at this time and all the new threads are thrown way back in the old threads on other pages so I have to really search each time I'm on the board.  Sorry... time will cure this problem.  I'm Suzan , cl of the Sand Box, have been with iVillage for about 10 yrs most of them on this board.   I'm from Germany, have one married son , and i'm a new grammy of 3 weeks.  I posted a Meet Mike thread , that's my tiny little grand.  WE ( ds and I) have a wonderful little cocker spaniel, 4 yrs old, named Coffee and she is the light of my life.  We call her diva non dog here on the board as she's like a little kid.   Megan, I studied , worked & lived in NYC for 12 years , and it IS the best city in the world.  Enjoy your time in FL, I had relatives living in the Keys but htey just moved to central FLA.

What are your hobbies,,,  I like reading,  suduko, cross stitch, gardening, people watching (an old NYC pasttime), tea parties, walking in the forest, photography,,, etc.

Have a safe trip, and great news that you get to return for 3 weeks in Dec.,

   TTYS.....
