Summer Dreaming.......
Sun, 02-24-2013 - 12:01pm

We're up to our knees in snow, below zero weather, down with the flu since the 10th, and I'm getting cabin fever.
So I started dreaming of places I'd like to go to this spring/summer......

Here's my list:  (there are more, but off the top of my head):

1.  Vienna (chocolate cake & tea and the palace) . I miss Vienna.
2.  Milan, Italy (shopping and I've never been there before) & perhaps Pisa before the tower topples over
3.  London (shopping) (3 day trip)
4.  Paris (museums) (3 day trip)
5.  Fly to Hamburg or Berlin (never been to either of them)
6.  In Turkey: perhaps Cappadocia and/or Pamukle (never been to see them either)
7.  hmmmmm, that's a good start....

What about you,,,, start dreaming......

I'll try to stay somewhat realistic and not say somewhere really far (wish London and Paris were 3 day trips for me, lol)

1. Chicago, for the museums. We could do it easily over a weekend.
2. Fly to Washington and go on an Alaskan cruise.
3. Emerald Isle, NC, for the memories of times past and because it's beautiful.
4. Washington DC, because I haven't been there since 1969 and there are new things I want to see, and things I want to see again.
5. Las Vegas, because I've never been and would love to go, just to say I'd been there (well, I did drive through there back in 1972, but I don't count that, lol.)
6. New York City, to see the things I didn't see last time and maybe see a show.
7. San Diego, CA, for the zoo.

I just wish all but one of these places didn't require a couple of weeks, a lot of money and/or a plane trip (not that I mind flying, but it's costly).

Spring is good for traveling, but we don't like to travel in the summer. We like traveling while noisy kids are IN school and away from US!! Sorry, but we've done the kid thing and enjoyed it immensely and are now finished with it as far as traveling goes.

We'd be traveling right now if it would fit into the budget..which it does here we sit in our nice cozy home awaiting the second blizzard arriving tonight and tomorrow!! We still have tons of snow left from the former snow storm!!

We like to travel to warm beautiful tropical locations, preferrably via a luxurious cruise ship to do the navigating for us!! We'll be doing that in 2013.

In 2014, we're planning on a European trip. We'll pack as much in as we can get in for I'll only do this once!! Cannot stand looooong airplane flights!!

This year we'll take a couple of short trips, Branson, MO for the Bluegrass Festival..Kansas City just for fun and to see my aunt, maybe Oklahoma City for fun and to visit with dh's son and his girlfriend, and whatever else comes up.

So, Suzan, that's quite a list for this spring/summer. How many locations do you think you'll get to?

As I sit inside watching yet another weekend snowstorm wind down, I am also daydreaming of trips! We are well past our knees in snow.Looks like it will be a wintery week here in NH.

We have vacation weeks this year April & October. A few days each week will be up North on a hiking trip- weather permitting !

I'd LOVE a European vacation...toss in a wee or 2 in the UK too! What I'd love for real-

1. Guam for a week to visit Jeremy & see this gorgeous island. I'm not a tropics person so a week is looong enough.
2. Alaska...including a cruise
3. The Grand Canyon
4.A train ride around the mid-west- therough the Rockies,Utah , The Tetons. We looked at the is a gorgeous trip!
5 Cape Cod.

6. I love a couple weeks to just drive all over New Engalnd & see all the things in "my backyard" ! have the $$$$ to do this. Yep...a dream! At least a few are achievable

an alaskan cruise is on my bucket list Ann.  That would be a humengous trip for us as it's 1/2 across the world,, but well worth it and the cost for sure.   I think I could get the same impact if we were to take the Norweigian Fjord cruise,,, that's closer.

someday I'll get to Washington DC. Never been ,,, never been to Vegas either and I doubt now I'll ever get there but one never knows.

When you said Emerald Isle I thought you were coming to Ireland.....   Ann, if you book in advance, airplane tickets can be quite reasonable.   if you are flexible.

Hi Donna,

I totally agree on travelling when school is in session.  Actually in Europe you have to, that or plan a year in advance (which due to business we can not do),,, autobahns are packed and hotels and other things also,, no fun for us.    As for your question : how many of the things on my list do I think we would actually do?  None of them.  I'm not up to it yet, but something to look forward to if I get a couple weeks of feeling better .   No sense doing a city tour when you can't walk very far.... but we'll see and I can dream.

HI Pat,

I love New England and there is so much to see and do and it's all so absolutely gorgeous.  That is another trip I'd like to do too with my dh.  I'd love to drive the St lawarence seaway and up in that area... love to see the Maine coast...  I would like to do it all in the fall though,, not for the foliage (that too) but it's just a lovely time to do it...     perhpas when my next reunion comes around which would be held in upper NYstate ,, who knows right?

I have also seen photos and literature about the rockies,, but I was looking at a train trip thru the Canadian rockies,,,,,  oh the glory of that!     Amazing.

I do hope you can get to Guam,,,, of course you have to account for the travel time it so far,,, so 2 days at least gone for that....  but yes,,, try to go while your son is there......  super trip......

Ok so let's dream on, this is fun!!!!!

I've suggested looking at a trip to Ireland in the far future to Tom, but he hates to make plans way in advance. He says he never knows what will come up or how he'll feel and would hate to lose any up front money we'd have to pay. But maybe someday we'll go.  ...Maybe.

Till then, North Carolina's Emerald Isle will have to do. It's a gorgeous strip of land where my family (mom, dad, sister, brother, sister's dh and dd, and Tom and Colleen) rented a beach house several times over the course of 8 or 9 years (fabulous homes!). Every trip there was heaven (at least for me, lol).

We don't like traveling when kids are out of school, either, Donna. That's why we go camping before Memorial Day and after Labor Day, lol.

As for what we WILL do this year, in addition to the usual camping, we'll go to Vermont over Labor Day for a huge reunion of Tom's very extended side of the family. We really would love it if Colleen, Brian and Riley could come with us this year, but it's doubtful. They don't have the vacation time Tom has and have other places they want to go.

This is fun!

DH and actually have a spring trip planned to Longboat Key Florida - can't wait to head down there.  On our wish list is a trip to Ireland with my brother and his wife.  I think we might actually pull it off if one of the four of us would get it planned.

In my dreams I would like to go to Germany to see DH's relatives.  I've also heard about a river cruise that goes through Germany that sound pretty cool.  Suzan have you ever heard about it?

I would even just love to go up to Lake Michigan for a long weekend in the area where we spent our honeymoon.

Hmmm - If I'm gonna dream big some more, I will add a trip to Australia.  I have ALWAYS wanted to go there.

Well, that's enough for now - I think I'll go find our passports, get them renewed and start packing!

Happy dreaming.

Germany and Ireland....  great places,,, I would also like to go to Ireland,, just don't like the rain but the greenery must just be outstanding....    as for the river cruise.  I did a short one from Frankfurt to Köln and it was outstanding,,, ya just have to sit there and enjoy the view (with sunscreen that is).   There are quite a few,,, check out the Donau Cruises,,,, some go down into Prague,,,, etc......

We can go to Australia together,,, that is one very longgggg trip so,,,,  have to save up to get business class seats....
