Surviving Christmas Week???

It's over!! Hope you all had a great Christmas!! Are any of you still celebrating?

I don't know about all of you, but my dh and I are worn out today, the day after Christmas!! We have an Open House to go to later today from 4 - 6pm and we are going to have to drag ourselves out the door for we don't feel like doing anything at all!!

We'll have my two youngest grandloves here Thursday and Friday and maybe my two oldest grands on Thursday too. It'll be fun! We'll play the game Hedbanz, (like Headbands), which one of the grands got for Christmas yesterday and we had a lot of fun with. Will probably play UNO, too, and maybe I can get them to settle down and watch a Christmas movie so I can doze in my chair beside them!! Fingers crossed on that one..LOL!!

Then on Saturday, we have a wedding to go to for dh's (our) niece!! We are so looking forward to January when we'll have a week of nothing to do!! Bring it on!!

Sure am tired of all of the bad for us foods too!! Today we'll eat junk and tomorrow if there's any left, it will go in the trash!!!

Have a good rest of your week everyone!! Smile

Ann...Glad you had a good Christmas and I know Riley was the center of it all!! So fun to have a little child with you at Christmas time!! My grandloves ages range from 10 - 15 now, but they're still fun kids to have around and make the holiday even more special. I understand your actual Christmas day being low key after such a good family time! That's okay, though, for it was time to rest!!

Oh, goodness, all those left overs!! If we could only judge amounts better when we're making them!! Normally I do not like throwing foods out either, but in this case, I am ready for it!! So far I'm able to resist and not eat anymore of them, but if I begin to feel pressured by seeing the high calorie foods, out they'll go!! DH will just have to suffer..LOL!!

We'll be taking decorations down, too, but maybe not until Sunday. I just don't feel up to getting into it yet. I hope we don't get any NYE invites for that is a good time to stay home and off the streets with the crazies out there!!

Sounds like a fun Christmas with Riley! It is always so quiet & a bit of a let down when the festivities are over.
I made a concious effort not to bake this year or make any goodies.I hardly picked at any at work.
sigh...*hanging my head in shame*   LOL

Yep...Christmas is  over.I went to work Weds morning. Today I am home- got 10 minutes down the road & turned around...hahaha

Well, I did get to the bakery for pork pies for dinner!! YUMMM... I also made pasta fagioli, had shrimp/cocktail sauces, cheese & crackers, veggies/dip, and coc cream pie( store bakery) LOTS leftover & not very happy about it. Wayne's kids went to thier mother's before coming over- late!- and ate a big lasagna dinner there. THANKS for letting us know beforehand! oops...am I still a wee upset about all the $$ I spent on food??

I did not make any goodies this year- unless I mail them out to my boys sweets go to waste- or my waist...LOL

Wayne got the flu virus going about and spent most of Christmas day sleeping.I did get to talk to my boys. Made my day!! I did not go visit my sis#1 & her family as I did not want to spread any germs. So, it was a quiet very boring day.THAT gets old quick and I did not enjoy

The only thing that felt like Christmas is the tree, decorations & opening gifts. Wayne got me a really nice wooden sled!! and GCards from the shoe store(need new loafers) & Kohl's( one of my favorite clothing stores)

We'll stay home- figures- for New Year's. I have it off but Wayne will be working.

Hi Ann,

We've all agreed that there are just too many leftovers goodies to be eaten.  Even my ds/dil complained that there was too many tempting sweets around , and they can work it off a lot easier than dh and I can.  I told dil to just wrap and freeze some of the cookies.... which she'd like to but her freezer is filled with frozen breast milk.... LOL

glad you had fun and enjoyed all the festivities.  Watching Riley open presents must be really fun.. does she like the toys or the boxes and wrappings more?  LOL

I don't think we are planning anything for NY eve either,,, my tree is still up as it's fresh and pretty as I never got it up until the 21st and smells heavenly... so will wait until it's  drooping until I take it down.

We enjoyed our CMas eve at ds/dil's with Mikie and Coffee, it was fun.  She had made lots of cookies and served tea and had a nice  big bowl of cut up fruit (mainly for dh who doesn't eat sweets ever).   On the 25th they came over to our house early so that she could help me with the meal and because she wanted to learn how to make a turkey and stuffing and gravy and stuff.  We then made a simple box cake (strawberry) and assembled it in the shape of a XMAS tree and she decorated it with frosting and sprinkles and whatever she could find around... it was cute and good.

Other than that,,, I'm tired  but doing laundry today, and will try to read my book after I finish typing this to you.  I like Christmas and decorations and etc.. but I'm really glad it's over.   :O)

Hi thia,

Much to my dh's dismay last night, I told him I had sent all the leftover turkey, mashed pots/gravy, cookies and cakes home with ds/dil......  they work off those extra calories a lot easier than we can.   We had a lovely baked fish and green salad,, which he liked but had really wanted a turkey sandwich.  LOL (next year)

Hi Donna,

Before I forget, take a peek at the thread CMThia started, it has some interesting trends for 2013,  I got some ideas ...... link here: http://www.ivillage.com/forums/love-sex/family-friends/sand-box/healthy-happy-me/biggest-health-trends-2013?page=

Well I do know how you love to be out and around, but yes, when it mostly falls in one week, it IS tiring and just gets to be toooo much.   hope you are having fun with your grands (young and older ones).   Not sure I've ever heard of the game hedbanz.....  will have to google it.

We stopped celebrating and the cleaning lady came by at 9 and I took down all the decorations hanging around but not the tree as it's still fresh and pretty.  It is good to get the C-mas nicknacks put away though .  I have a TON of laundry to do as I did not do any housecleaning for the past 5 days or so....  not up to it.  Coffee is here with me (slept over last night and the night before too)  .

I so agree with all the junk food, delicious as it is,, EVEN I have my limits and if I can stop eating all the left over sweets then anyone can!  LOL

Oh I wish I could post photos....  Mikie was so cute,, slept his way thru all the hussle and bussle... Coffee was also really pretty in her new shiny purple coat.

Gee I would be much to tired to attend a wedding,, the open house should be fun,, and not such a long ordeal,,,,  but have fun anyway and you can rest next week.

Glad to hear you had great holiday even if it was exhausting.

I know about the cooking too much and am so glad we always have so many kids/grandkids visiting so we can send tons of stuff home for them.

We did have a very nice Christmas. The food was good, the company was the best, and we had a lot of fun opening gifts and watching Riley open hers and playing Hearts later after R went to sleep. But I've been ready to move past the holiday since Colleen, Brian and Riley left on Monday morning. They were my Christmas and there wasn't much to celebrate once they left, sad to say.  I sent a lot of the goodies home with them, but should have given them more. We have much more than we should in good conscience eat, but I just can't bring myself to throw it out. I think I'll make up a goodie package for the neighbors, lol.  Next year I won't make quite as much of everything!

We've finished up most of the leftovers from our dinner, but are still eating ham (it was a big ham!). I'm making something with chicken tonight, for a change, then make a casserole with ham tomorrow and if that doesn't use it up, the rest will get frozen for sandwiches or something later in the year.

We have no plans for the rest of the week, or for New Year's Eve or Day, so we'll take the Christmas decorations and tree down and put them away for the year this weekend.
