Just wanting your opinions on when it's acceptable to add someone as a friend on Facebook. How well should you know them before you add them ? Just wondering because I have just had a friend request rejected.

Everybody seems to have a different opinion on this. Some people want to be friends with practically anybody, friends of friends of friends; people they've never met but who "like" the same band or team or store or whatever. I'm friends with a few people like that and they have hundreds or thousands of "friends" from all over the place. Some guy from South America with my same (not very common) last name sent me a friends request and when I looked at his page I saw that he had just under 5000 "friends". To me sharing a last name is not a reason to become FB friends so I denied his request.

I’m not a big Facebook fan, and I routinely have rejected “friend” requests from people I don’t know well or don’t care to follow/interact with.

Facebook is a complex place.....we all make decisions as to who to add or whom not to add.
