I can relate to that loss of "exuberant joy", and to add, my inability to allow myself to experience it as an adult.

What do you know about your DIL chilhood? Probably she is just doing the same her mother did. I agree that trying to be perfect is a great mistake. Why dont you ask her why she acted that way in a nice not confronting way. She might give you her thoughts and dependidng of what she says, you might feel free to give your opinion just like a different persepctive. That might help, I guess. You know her more.....So, its up to you.

Well, at least that's not quite as bad as calling your daughter a b*tch because she's refusing to pee in the potty! (This was my cousin...)

It is difficult to see any name calling and children not treated with the love and acceptance they need and.deserve.
