Reading the responses on the drinking with kids thread was very interesting.

Your post makes a lot of sense. You're right about the girl saying "he loves me" and the guy saying "woo hoo! I'm gonna get some". A lot of guys way past their teens still think like that. I know married men who think like that. The sex being tied to our esteems is true too. Teens who aren't ready get pushed into having sex all the time. They get pushed into smoking, drinking, etc.. if you don't do it, you're lame. If you do something and it doesn't turn out right, everyone finds out and call you lame. Where I grew up, there wasn't a lot for kids to do unless they played sports. I played sports. I didn't have a lot of spare time, so I stayed out of a lot of trouble. The kids who weren't in any sports or clubs just hung out. They smoked, drank and had sex and acted like Beavis and Butthead.

I understand that.

LOL, I find this whole "don't give them condoms, cause it will encourage them", a crock.

Was your DN sexually active when she was put on b.c.?

I also agree with Hearto.

And maybe a box of condoms in their face might make them think about safe sex.

I didn't get the argument from a few posts back that a kid adult enough to have sex should be adult enough to work, or save, to buy their own. If only...

Sadie, are these girls doing the 29 dance classes outside of school? Are you driving them?

You seem to have an idea that if others had done as you posted, their children wouldn't have had sex before they're ready. Is that right?

Your views seem pretty black and white to me. And I've never found parenting to be that way.

This thread led me to have a conversation with my boyfriend about what we will do with our future kids, should he and I get married :)

I grew up in a Catholic household, and while we had sex ed in my Catholic school and my mom had talks with me about growing up as a woman, I was, of course, never expected to have sex before marriage.

In a perfect World, abstinence only is a great idea.
