I responded to your post on the depression board, but I'll mention it here, too. I think she might have temporal lobe brain injury. The clutter, constant snacking, risky and emotive behaviors, and acting on whims are all symptoms of that. If possible, I would get her to a doctor and have a scan done of her brain because temporal lobe injury can actually be seen and is not the same as Alzheimer's.

Thank you for your reply. The "toxic" question seems irrelevant now; I just wanted to use the title from my original post (from which I got great feedback) from over a year ago. In light of events, it's clear she needs a lot of support and she should be able to ask it.
