I don't know your history with your family, but the first thing that popped into my head was *gastritis.* This is a pre-cursor to ulcers. In my case, it occurred because of stress - sometimes, the body reacts to stress by producing too much bile, or producing it at the wrong times (when the stomach is empty) - causing the stomach acids to eat away at the stomach lining instead of digesting food. Ouch!!! For me, it's not nausea - just a burning, severe pain and cramping in the stomach that lasts anywhere from 30 min to several hours.

I've been affected by this nasty condition since the age of 15 (28 yrs ago), when I developed it as a result of abuse by my step-mother. I spent 4 days in the hospital while they tested for everything else, then sent me home with tranquilizers and orders to "try to get along better with my stepmother." Ha.

Since then, it flares up only when I am under tremendous stress or when I eat foods that are too greasy. Sometimes the pain is so sudden and so severe that it brings me to my knees in tears. Antacids work wonders when this happens, so I pop a couple of Tums and in a few seconds the pain is gone.

This is just one possibility, but worth checking out with your doctor. Good luck!

That symptom is in the Toxic Parents book. The book asks 'do you get physically ill when forced to deal with your parents?'. Mine used to give me hives. Now that I don't partake of them much not surprisingly the hives are much, much, better.

Thank you both! Sorry you both are having physical symptoms as well but it is comforting to know that I'm not alone. Thank you for the information. I too read the book, Toxic Parents. Since I have not spoken to mine in a couple years I have had no stomach problems related. Now since I'm emailing...the stomach problem is slowly coming back. Maybe it is just nerves too? Anyhow, thank you both very much!
