My SIL recently suggested that, since her granddaughters both have children now (both are unmarried and have financial issues), that it might be "fair" for

I had to laugh...after posting this, I got a call from my brother this morning and he said something about how many things they'd bought their great grandchildren for Christmas and they hoped we hadn't bought them anything yet because they're going to be SO SPOILED this year!

In our family, we also only make purchases for the grandkids but we also are lucky enough to all live w/in about an hours drive from one another.

Possibly, but I don't think so because my grands are 11, 14 and 17 and her great-grands are 18 months old.

It's alot more expensive to buy gifts for your grandkids than two 18-month olds. Lol.

Not the point, I know. But maybe your SIL wants more of a connection with your family, and thinks this may be the way to do it.

Otherwise, it doesn't seem to make sense.... kwim?

I think how it's been is just fine. Times are tough and money scarce for most so now isn't the time to start spending money on unfamiliar relatives. Politely deny her request and spoil your Grandbabies.
