What GOOD news!!! You finally tied the knot. And with such flair!!

Do you think that being married will change your relationship? After living together for so long what made you decide it was time to get married?

Congratulations!!

Awwww thanks for the post! Yes, we finally tied the knot during the Sturgis Rally - after about 7 years (not sure when we actually became "engaged" - it kind of evolved. Probably at that point when he wanted me to move in, and I said if I ever moved in it would be forever - no getting rid of me, and he said so are you packed yet, etc...)

We eloped. He bought me a new 100th anniversary edition Harley Davidson Low-Rider on a Friday (to replace my 22-yo Honda), and we left the next morning bound for the Black Hills and the Sturgis Rally - 700 miles. Got our marriage license in Rapid City, picked out a pretty spot near my brother's house, found a preacher, shopped for a couple of simple silver bands ($20 for the set - woohoo!) and just DID it - out under God's beautiful blue skies, standing beside a lake, surrounded by the gorgeous Black Hills.

I wore black jeans, my favorite white blouse, leather biker vest, and my beat-up old biker boots. He was dressed pretty much the same. I had a multi-colored bandana for a veil, and wildflowers picked at the lakeside for my bouquet. My brother grilled buffalo steaks for the wedding dinner and invited a bunch of friends over. It was a blast!

Anyways, to answer your questions: No, I don't think being married will change our relationship - at least I hope not. We've been together for 7 years and pretty much have all the wrinkles ironed out already. If anything, I feel more secure and safe. But it's only been a week, so only time will tell.

As for what made us decide to finally get married: we had delayed getting that little piece of paper until 3 things occurred: 1) both of our credit scores cleaned up; 2) secured real estate in our own names, separately (easier to do while still single), and 3) changes to our tax status and/or the marriage penalty tax laws. So he's been working like a dog on me to get my credit improved (my score is now better than HIS), he already owns his own house and last month I bought one (woohoo!) for investment. AND, our tax situation has changed for the better. So on the day I closed the deal on my house, he said, "so when are we going to get married?"

That was a month ago. We got married last week.

My face still hurts from grinning so much. (not to mention the permanently frozen smile from riding my new HD hehehe.)

Thanks for asking! Glad to share.

Msfit~~~~~~

I am so HAPPY for you!! It sounds like you had the perfect day and have the perfect match for you. He sounds so sweet:) Sturgis SD is really God's country it is so beautiful out that way. Me, DH and DS have been through there thanks to the many moves the military gives us. Just driving through the area gives one a peace that is undescribable, it's a shame so many people over look it. Again congrats on your wedding and WOW a 2003 Harley??? How long was he on a waiting list for that? Was this planned on his part LOL??? Enjoy your honeymoon and all the many years yet to come.

opps.

Sorry about misspelling your name. I looked at it this morning and thought that doesn't seem right. The misspelling seems to have a whole different meaning. Sorry again about that. Hope it didn't take any of the excitment away from the message.

It sounds like a beautiful wedding and just your style. That is what is so neat. Everyone has such a different idea of the perfect wedding.

Planned, yes - for about the past year. but we didn't intend to buy one until next spring. Getting ready for the trip, my poor old Honda just wasn't up to it, so that's why the sudden decision to buy a new Harley now.

And the waiting list - NONE. but, just like with cars, you CAN buy one off the dealer's showroom floor without a waiting list, but you're gonna pay more. Can order and wait, and pay less. It's a trade-off. However, the Anniversary models were mostly all gone by late spring. I consider myself VERY lucky to have found one still in the showroom just weeks before the 100th HD Anniversary celebration. And, yeah, we're gonna be paying for it for quite some time.

You see, with toys as with relationships, the easy part is getting one. Now begins the hard part: KEEPING it.

BTW - I also love the Black Hills and consider this one of the best kept secrets in the country. I've been to Sturgis 3 times and visited family in the area several other times, and STILL have not see everything there is to see and do! Still on the list for next trip (or whenever): Wall Drug and the Badlands, Wind Cave spelunking tour, gold and silver mines at Lead and Deadwood, and climbing to the top of Crazy Horse during Solstice (only time they let you).

Still the same person, by any name (a rose by any other name.... LOL). Msfit, Misfit, Misguided, Missed out, Missing a few brain cells, doesn't matter. I got the message, thank you!

The pseudonym was intended as a play on words, so take it or spell it anyway you like.
