Should These Nazi-Naming Parents Have Lost Custody of Their Baby?

You know how we all agreed we weren’t going to judge another parent until we’d driven a mile in her minivan? Well, I pretty much crapped out of the deal back in 2009 when I read about Heath and Deborah Campbell, the New Jersey couple who’d decided to legally change their son’s name to Adolf Hitler....

As a former foster parent it does not surprise me that the children have been in the system almost 2 years. There could be many reasons for this, such as: the parents not cooperating with the government agencies, parents not working their program, the government agencies creating many hoops for the parents to jump through to prove they are *fit* parents, the government agencies legally kidnapping these children(yes it happens) to *save them* from an abusive home. CPS does set the parents up to fail. In my situation, I had a child who was taken from her father on a domestic violence charge. Dad and gf got into a fight and gf called the cops. Both had kids in the home and all were taken into custody. I had been called to take the 2 younger girls(gf's kids) in but couldn't due to their ages and my job. I was later called about the older girl(dad's). I had her almost 2 years while they battled it out in court. During that time CPS kept creating more obstacles for Dad. Dad had a drug problem but was never abusive to his daughter. Dad was made out to be this violent monster by CPS to me and I was not able to meet him for some time. Once I did meet him I became aware that he was not a *monster* but a father being denied his child. Instead of working his program he tried to fight it in court. This was not how CPS works and created road blocks at each step. When he finally started to play their game, it was too bad/so sad we are taking your child for good and terminated his parental rights. I was going to adopt this girl as she had been with me all that time. I met with an adoptions worker, (government agent) and was deemed unfit to parent this child. I was unfit because I was a single parent working full time. This was the reason I had heard when the child was removed from my home. Funny, I was fit for the 20+ months she was in foster care to parent her as a single parent working full time yet not as an adoptive parent. BTW, this was NOT what was reported to the courts at the father's termination hearing as to why the child had been moved. This young lady was taken from me on Dec 1, 2004. The last time I saw her was on Dec 23, 2004 when she told me they(CPS/the courts) had taken her dad away from her. CPS is not premitted to discuss the case as it is a breach of confidentiality.

I don't get all worked up over " what ifs" and "what could be's". I don't believe for a second that my gov't would sterilize my sister.

Wow, that is a great program! I had none of those problems, just had no clue when I had my son at 21 and would have loved a coach! I'm so glad she has had the opportunity to become a good parent, and I hope that programs like that become more wide-spread. It sounds wonderful!

" I was commenting on the original question which had to do with their losing custody because of their name choice. Of course parents who abuse their children should lose the right to continue abusing those children even if it comes down to their losing custody. "

Honestly, I've gone over the specifics and don't feel the need to repeat myself. These children weren't removed from the home solely be/c the government didn't like the names the parents chose. They were taken away be/c the parents were unfit, abusive people...PERIOD. And yes, I think we should deter these people from having any more kids....be/c honestly, I wouldn't want to take a chance with another child's life! I feel once an abuser, always an abuser!

I think parents don't have the right to their children like property, nor can they do anything, or name them anything.

>>>Unfortunately, this case has more to do with abuse within the home than it does with odd children's names. If it were a case of the govt simply coming in & doing what they saw fit, just be/c they disagreed with the parents, then I'd agree with you.

If it were a case of the govt simply coming in & doing what they saw fit, just be/c they disagreed with the parents, then I'd agree with you. But it isn't. These people are not well, continue to have children that they abuse & must be taken from them?! Sorry... but I stand by my statement!!! I still believe that someone must protect those kids from abuse if the parents are gonna keep having them!!!!

Lighten up. We say things like that all the time and we're not Nazis!

And personally, I think my sister should be forcibly sterilized!

>>>Someone needs to protect these kids & stop them from having anymore!!!!!!

Wasn't that the sort of hype the Nazis started out with...you know, suggesting certain people weren't acceptable to be parents, "protecting" children from parents because of their beliefs?
