too much family

Just spent a 3 day weekend with my hubby, kids and his dad and wife, in a condo in a remote resort area. We had solid rain for 3 days, so we spent most of that time in a living space of about 400 square feet (plus bedrooms), listening to country music (which I cannot stand!) and having people in my face non-stop, talking about the same stuff OVER and OVER. At least the kids got to sit in their bedroom watching television. I'm sorry, I have no interest in things that happened 15 years ago to people I do not know and will never meet. Nor do I want probing questions about my personal life or money. Stay out of it!

My hubby is already talking about doing this again next year, and I cannot believe it. My family is a 3 hour flight away, we have been there 3 times in the past 5 years, 2 of which were for funerals. When we do fly out, we stay in a hotel 45 minutes from my parents, and I am lucky if we spend 3 hours over the weekend with my family. But it's okay to spend 3 solid DAYS with his.

Anyway, just had to vent. I don't mind his family, but not in such close quarters for so long, and he just doesn't seem to get it. I won't be going on one of these weekends again, but don't have a problem if he goes. Should be interesting. . . . . . .

Too bad about the rain. Anyone would go stir-crazy in the same situation! I'd bet you would have had a better vacation if not for the rain and being forced to stay so close during those three days. Why not give it another chance and hope for better weather next time? You might have a wonderful time, maybe not. But by only one visit, and refusing to ever go again, you'll never know.

My DH and I spent a solid week with my brother and his wife, and two other couples, this summer in their home in the Black Hills. 800 sq. ft home, 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, 4 couples. It was very tight - but fortunately we had excellent weather and motorcyles to ride (and lots of excuses to leave the house frequently, together or alone), and spent many hours on the patio to relieve the crowded conditions indoors. I could feel a bit of tension from one or another of us during that week (most frequently from my brother's wife, her house, but bless her heart she was the perfect hostess and never complained). So it worked out for us - next time, however, we plan to only spend a few days with them and the rest of the week camping out.

Anyway, hope it works out whether you go next time or not. Good luck!
