Not everyone gets to follow the school, marriage then baby path and thankfully your niece is 24 not 14. My DD got pregnant at 27. This was not a happy occasion as she didn't plan to be a Mom & she struggled with this her entire pregnancy. She & her DH (SO at the time) had been together for 4 yrs.

I have to admit that I wasn't very good that first night. In fact while there was no yelling or saying how disappointed we were, the kids knew we were unhappy. However, I realized that there was a baby coming regardless of how I felt & being negative or unhappy wasn't going to change that. So I got into the mood & I'm thrilled with my DGS. He is the best thing that has ever happened to our family. He brought us all closer together and his Mom & Dad are amazing parents. It hasn't been easy for my DD as she had to finish school but it has made her appreciate herself more.

So relax & convince yourself that there is no reason not to be happy. Congratulate her & share her excitement during this wonderful time.

Thanks!! I also take the cues from my niece who is so excited for this baby!! It's a baby and my Great Niece and maybe it didn't happen the way I would have done it but she's not me and I'm not her. I respect her choice and support 100%!! IT'S A BABY!!

Ironically I'm in the same position. I'm old fashioned and believe in first comes marriage then a baby carriage BUT the fact of the matter is she's pregnant now and you can sit back and judge or you can embrace this new life and hope for the best for her. My family have embraced her and she knows she has our complete support (my niece is 29). I will be a Great Aunt in 5 weeks and I'm excited!!!
