DH and I were in a car accident
Mon, 10-11-2010 - 7:09pm

This week has not started out well! DH and I got into a car accident this afternoon. He was getting ready to make a left hand turn onto the highway. He was over the line and the light was yellow, so he had to move or he'd be blocking traffic. The other driver was across the street and pulled out of a parking lot and got into the far lane. Then she made a lane change and kept on coming and plowed into us. DH hit the brakes and thank the Goddess he did, or else the other car would have hit the passenger side of our car, where I was sitting. The air bags didn't deploy and no one was injured. The police officer said that he believed that technically the other driver was at fault, but state law says that if a driver is making a left hand turn and is in an accident, then it's that driver's fault. So DH has a court date next month and if he pleads guilty some of the fines will be reduced.

The police officer saw that DH and I were stranded there so he offered us a ride and he took us to Enterprise so that we could rent a car, since DH needs to go to classes this week. After we rented the car we went to our insurance agent and got the paperwork filed. The insurance adjuster will call us within 24 hours. I really hope that the car can be fixed.

So sorry to hear about the accident nancy,
However thank goodness no one was hurt.
Geez .. the other person's fault really ..
But because DH was making a left it's automatically his fault ?
that doesn't sound right ::sigh::
Hope your car is not totalled though.
Here's to a much better start with Tuesday & the rest of the week :)

The cop really didn't want to have to cite DH for the accident, since technically, it was the other driver's fault. But that's the law in this state. I don't think that the car will be totaled. DH is worried about it (he worries more than I do, which I didn't think was possible), but I keep telling him that it's in All State's and the garage's hands now. Everyone has really been surprised that this was DH's first accident since he started driving eight years ago. We had the radio on in the rental car on the way home and heard the traffic report and there were at least six other accidents, so we weren't the only ones who had a lousy Monday.

That's terrible! It's so frustrating to have to take the time out to get the car fixed, go to court, etc but at least neither one of you was seriously injured.

I hope the rest of your week is completely uneventful in comparison!

What a crummy way to start your week :( We really should just cancel this week entirely. But I'm glad you are both okay.
