Ever since I can remember we've always had joint accounts,
Still do now :)

My husband and I don't share a account because it is easier for us. I don't mess with his and he doesn't mess with mine because he has a spending problem and I am more of a saver. We still pay bills together and things so it works out for us.

We've always had a joint account. We see the money as "ours," even when only one of us was/is working. This attitude helps cement us as a couple. This way we don't fight about money.

We have had a joint checking account since shortly after we got engaged.

We each carry a debit card and I carry one check with me in my purse. The rest of the checkbook is kept at home.

DH and I each carry a debit card and he carries the credit card (we only use that when we absolutely have to, like last year when we had the car accident and had to rent a car). I carry the checkbook, but I really ought to leave that at home and carry one check like you do, Rosie. I basically only use the checkbook for paying the bills, but there are times when you'll be somewhere that only accepts cash or checks, and I usually don't have much cash on me.

Sounds good as long as it works for both of you,
Do either of you have access to the other in case of whatevers ?

Before I even clicked on this post, I said "It's Complicated" so guess what I voted? LOL.

I would prefer to have a joint account but we don't. We each have our own separate checking account and my DH may be on mine, actually, but I don't know. Then I have my own savings account and we have a shared savings account. DH has a savings and checking account in his old city and an armed forces account that he doesn't use and it transfers one penny in and out each month or two so it doesn't go dormant because they have certain criteria for you to be able to have one and if he closes it he doesn't have the criteria to get another account there.

Thinking back, I don't know that I ever carried the whole checkbook with me. Like you, I only usually use checks to pay bills from home, although hardly enve that anymore with online bill pay. DH used to carry a check, too, but it was staying in his wallet so long that it was getting pretty beat up so we scrapped that. So few places don't take credit or debit cards that we rarely run into problems. I figure it helps prevent impulse purchases if I have to come back with the right payment. ;) Although, I never cease to be caught off guard when we get the car emission tested because the facility only accepts check or cash; so far it hasn't been an issue.
