DH and I have been struggling financially for a long time now. DH is a college student and his schdule has been so wacky that he wasn't able to fit in a job last semester. He's not going to summer school so that means he won't be getting a student loan to help us through. I work part-time at a non-profit cat sanctuary, but everyone who has ever worked for a non-profit knows that you get such little pay that you might as well be a volunteer. I wanted to go back to work in a veterinary clinic and was really having a difficult time finding a position. I'd go to interviews but wouldn't get any offers. DH and I have been getting desparate, wondering how we were going to survive the summer.
Well, I finally got another job! I got the call this evening. I'm going to be working as a kennel tech in an emergency vet clinic. I'll be starting out working on the weekends and perhaps get more hours later on. What I like about this place is that they are willing to teach me other duties, like placing catheters and the likes (one of my drawbacks is that I'm trained in being a vet assistant and not a vet tech. One clinic wouldn't hire me because I wasn't trained in how to draw blood, yet they weren't willing to train me to do it). This means that I can still work during the week in the cat sanctuary. So I won't be making big bucks, but at least DH and I won't be stuck eating Ramen noodles all summer.
Other good news: DH has an interview next Monday for an internship in the financial department of the county government. He's an accounting major and needs the experience. Plus it pays pretty well.
I feel like a weight has finally been lifted off my shoulders.
